When I was first learning to cut hair, I was just 19 years old. I was eager to learn and excited to face the challenges of attempting to master a new skill. This chapter of my life began 10 years ago.
Fresh into the working world, I had no idea that the journey I was about to embark on would become the path to my career as a barber and business owner.
While I watched my friends and family venture off to different cities to pursue degrees and explore new parts of the world, I was faced with an internal struggle: to leave the hair industry and try my hand at something new, or to stay focused on the path I had carved out in front of myself.
After three years of full-time cutting, I decided to leave the life of barbering. During my short hiatus, I went back to college to pursue a career as a firefighter. Although my studies were going well, I felt something was missing.
The lack of creative freedom and an absence of personal connections were the most prominent missing puzzle pieces in my life.
As the world entered a global pandemic, I was forced to step away from life at school. During those few months, I was responsible for one individual's appearance: my younger brother's.
My passion for hair was rekindled when I realized how many people felt lost without the ability to see their barbers. So, I decided a home studio would suit me best.
As the lockdown began to lift, I opened for business. That was when I realized there was no turning back.
Five years later, I decided I was ready to try my hand at entrepreneurship.
Today, I welcome all my decade-long loyal clients, all the friends picked up along the way and all new customers to come support my first true business: Studio K.
